One complete fossil walrus jawbone. You will receive a specimen weighing at least 1.5 pounds.

Ancient fossil walrus jawbones are sourced from native digs on St. Lawrence Island, Alaska and we make this beautiful and strong material available to US buyers. We can only ship within the US.

Fossil walrus jawbones can range in color from cream to dark chocolate brown but the vast majority of it is an almond color. These can be cut through the chin area to provide two halves with each half making many slabs or cross sections for art-craft work. The material has strata of color variations and is very unique in its appearance. If you make the natural outside of the bone your finished handle area then you attain a fossil ivory appearance. If you cut into the material further your finished stock oftentimes has a speckled appearance very similar to the look of chocolate chip ice cream.

This material has been out of the ground for 25 years so it is well cured and extremely stable. Some areas of the interior have visible pores while other areas do not. Pores can be left open or filled with any clear or dyed epoxy followed with a buffed finish.

Each jawbone is different in size and weight but we guarantee a minimum of a 1.5 pound specimen. Most are between 1.7 and 1.9 pounds. We picked up one of the 1.7 pounders and measured it. It was 7.9 inches wide at its widest point in the back. It was 8.5 inches long in a straight line measure front to back with each chin to hinge side area being 9 inches long. It was 3.5 inches high.
